The test requirements for each certificate title can be found through the Search Certification Requirements webpage. Additional information can also be found on the NYSED Exams webpage.
You may be required to take some of the following exams, depending on the certificate that you are applying for:
- Educating All Students (EAS) test
- Content Specialty Tests
- Bilingual Education Assessment
- Communication and Quantitative Skills Test (CQST) (Career and Technical Education Transitional A - Option B pathway for certification only)

Speech-Language Pathology Praxis test
(Professional Speech and Language Disabilities certificate only)
Important: Individuals who are eligible for certification through the Endorsement of a Certificate pathway or the National Board Certification pathway are not required to take and pass tests.
Please note, out-of-state exams, including the Praxis (ETS) and NES (Pearson) exams, may be eligible to satisfy your NYS content knowledge examination requirements. Review the eligibility requirements and submit your scores to the NYSED Office of Teaching Initiatives (OTI), if applicable.
The edTPA and the EdTPA Safety Net exams have both been eliminated as requirements for certification by the New York State Education Department. For more information on this update, please refer to the NYSED website.
