Here is some information about teaching in special class settings (formerly referred to as self-contained classrooms):
- Special class services are provided in classrooms where all of the children in the class have IEPs with needs that cannot be met in a general education classroom.
- As a teacher in a special class setting, you might teach a ratio as small as six students to one teacher and one paraprofessional for those with very high needs, to 12 or 15 students with one teacher in elementary/middle and high school respectively. The students in the class are within a three-year age range and have similar educational needs.
