- Communicate with your college or university to stay up to date on networking and career development opportunities offered for student teachers.
- Familiarize yourself with the specific requirements to obtain certification in your desired certification area.
If you are on track to receive your NYS teaching certification by the start of the school year:
- Download the Online Application Guide for step-by-step instructions on completing your New York City Public Schools Teacher Application.
- Compile your application materials including your on-track to be certified letter from your college or university
- Submit your New York City Public Schools Teacher Application
- Follow these instructions to submit your application for New York State certification. Note that the New York State Education Department (NYSED) is the official body that evaluates and issues New York State teacher certifications. NYC Public Schools is not involved in this process and does not grant teacher certification.
- Take the required workshops and exams.
Once your application is reviewed and you are accepted to the New Teacher Finder, you can:
- Attend recruitment and networking events
- Take advantage of early commitment opportunities - eligible participants can earn a $1,000 stipend.
- Search for jobs in the New Teacher Finder
- Review vacancy lists
- Interview with schools you're interested in
