Student teaching opportunities are available to aspiring teachers enrolled in approved teacher preparation programs. For more information on how to become a student teacher at NYC Public Schools, please speak with your college or university.
Getting Started
- Fingerprinting / Background Checks: The first priority of NYC Public Schools is to the safety of its students and staff. As such, all student teachers must be cleared through a background check. Note: current and former NYCPS employees still have steps to complete in the applicant gateway before they can be cleared for student teaching.
- Be assigned to a New York City public school: Your college/university program officer will identify the school and classroom in which you will train. Where possible, NYCPS seeks to align student teachers to the schools and districts that intend to hire for the upcoming year.
- Student Teacher Registration: Your school will add you to the Human Resources database, which will trigger the creation of NYCPS login credentials (username/password). This will enable you to access NYCPS online tools and resources.
